There is a genuine concern about the high levels of national debt and inflation. Debt becomes too high, investors that buy the government securities (the way of financing the debt) will be insufficient. The government needing to fill the shortfall in revenue will be forced to print money (what countries actually do today). Printing money and increasing the money supply, will lead to inflation.
The problem with inflation, is that it devalues the value of bonds, people will sell bonds, leading to higher interest rates on these bonds and higher debt interest payments. If investors see inflation is getting out of control, people will not want to hold bonds. Foreign investors will sell their securities and this will cause a devaluation in the currency.
The future of the US Currency is not looking good at all right now. Every dollar that is made already has a percent of debt. That debt is controlled by a system of credit. This huge amount of deficit has the US dollar falling continuously.
